Putting Yourself On The Page

It can be hard to promote yourself because no ones thinks their special or can recognize the things that sets them apart from others. Having others review your work or asking them what your best foot to put forward may be is a great place to start, especially when building a profile.

This is what you see currently when clicking on my profile.

When building a profile it is important to set up a clear view of what your goals are so that you do not lose sight of what your heading towards. Currently I am a convergent journalism and public relations major and I would like a job in the field of the public relations more than the journalism side.

Once I narrowed that down I needed to decide what I should showcase in the front of my profile. At first I had my homepage as my “ About Me” tab, but when reviewing with someone from Kansas City they told me I should be showcasing my work immediately and then if the employer wants to know more they can go to that tab.

I liked this idea because I want them to see my work from my internship. So instead of having an internship tab I am going to make that apart of my homepage. This same employer said I should change my photo to something I have done for my internship or something I have designed in the past so that everything is my work an not something given by the site.

I took this photo in my photography class in the fall of 2021.

When talking about my goals with employers and showing them my page I realized I need to organize my site into what I can do that others might not be as good at. This would be my social media skills and photography. When organizing my tabs I am going to re-arrange them in the order of what I want to showcase the most to what I want to showcase the least.

A lot of the feed back I got when showing my profile was that it really showcases my personality. From what I have noticed is I am the only one who has chose to go with colors and graphics on my profile. From what I could tell people enjoyed how I was able to still make it look sleek without it being just black and white.

Instagram post I made for my internship.

My goal is to get a job in Kansas City and I have already started applications since I graduate in May. I am not completely sure what to expect with applying for social media jobs so I am willing to start with many options. Once I get a job I am going to move out there and continue looking for jobs because you never know if you may see one a week, month or year later that could be your dream job and with one foot already in the door your more prepared than ever.

Overall, I do need to do a little more clean up and show case what I am most proud of immediately into the profile. I also do not have all of my work on there from my internship because of the tab it is on so I can going to try to organize it all on to that page.
